COURSE CURRICULUM

The Medical Engineering degree provides a structured learning path across three years, beginning with foundational knowledge and progressing to advanced, applied clinical engineering. In year one, students focus on building core skills through modules such as Engineering Maths and Computation, Fundamentals of Medical Engineering, and Applied Design and Practice. These courses lay the groundwork in mathematical principles, engineering basics, and design methodologies.Year two builds on this foundation by applying engineering theories to medical contexts. Core modules include Systems and Control, Microcontroller Applications and Embedded Design, Thermofluids, and Engineering Analysis and Computing. Students also explore human-focused modules such as Human Measurements and Biomechanics 1, providing a deeper understanding of the body's interaction with engineering systems. Medical Engineering Design introduces more advanced design work tailored to health and medical challenges.In year three, the focus shifts to integrating medical and engineering knowledge through real-world applications and problem-solving. Key modules such as Medical Imaging, Biomechanics 2, Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering, and Medical Electronics 1 expose students to the technologies and materials used in clinical settings. The Medical Engineering Applications module encourages students to tackle realistic clinical problems. A major component is the individual project, where students select a research area and apply their skills in a guided investigation. Past projects have examined topics such as brain imaging, motion analysis, blood flow modeling, and injury biomechanics. Throughout the program, students gain practical experience and engage with authentic engineering scenarios, preparing them for careers in both engineering and healthcare industries.
