COURSE CURRICULUM

The BEng Civil Engineering program provides a comprehensive foundation in the principles and practices of civil engineering through a combination of lectures, practical laboratory sessions, fieldwork, and project-based learning. In the first year, students are introduced to core concepts in engineering mathematics, the fundamentals of civil engineering, and applied design and practice, which establish the essential knowledge needed for advanced study. In the second year, students build on this foundation with modules covering engineering analysis, building modelling, hydraulics and soil mechanics, structural analysis and design theory, and sustainable civil engineering design and practice. An off-site residential field course enhances practical understanding of the natural and built environment, while optional modules such as environmental engineering or the history of western architecture allow students to tailor their studies. The final year focuses on developing independent research and design skills through a major project, alongside advanced modules in hydrology and hydraulics, geotechnical engineering, digital and computational methods, civil engineering design, advanced structural analysis, and sustainable structural design and practice. Throughout the program, students engage with real-world engineering problems, applying theoretical knowledge to practical scenarios, while developing critical professional skills including problem-solving, project management, teamwork, and communication. Graduates are prepared to enter the workforce as competent civil engineers or pursue further study in the field.
