COURSE CURRICULUM

The BEng Architectural Engineering degree progresses through a structured three-year pathway combining theoretical learning with strong practical application. In Year 1, students develop essential foundations through lectures and laboratory sessions in areas such as engineering mathematics, civil engineering fundamentals and applied design and practice, establishing core technical and analytical skills. Year 2 continues to build specialist knowledge through modules such as engineering analysis, building modelling, structural design theory, hydraulics, soil mechanics and sustainable civil engineering. Practical learning is strengthened through laboratory work and a five-day residential field course focused on studying natural and built environments. In Year 3, students undertake a major individual project worth a quarter of the year, working under academic supervision to apply research, design and problem-solving skills to a specialist area of interest. Alongside the project, students complete advanced core modules including architectural design and practice, geotechnical engineering, digital and computational engineering, advanced structural analysis and sustainable structural design. These final-year modules deepen technical understanding and professional readiness. The course overall is designed to equip students with strong engineering principles, real-world experience and collaborative skills, preparing them for careers in architectural engineering, construction, design consultancy and the wider built environment sector.
