COURSE CURRICULUM

The Welsh, Politics and International Relations BA program provides an integrated study of the Welsh language, literature, culture, and the fields of politics and international relations. In the first year, students take six core modules, exploring aspects of Welsh language and literature in contemporary, historical, and social contexts, alongside modules in international relations, comparative government, and political theory. Welsh-medium students may take Welsh-language equivalents for two politics modules. In the second year, students build on their Welsh language skills through a core module that includes work experience in a Welsh-speaking workplace, while optional modules allow further exploration of Welsh language, literature, and culture, including areas relevant to employment such as language planning and heritage. Politics and international relations study includes core modules on UK government and international relations theories, with optional modules enabling a broader exploration of topics such as comparative European politics, justice, public policy, and global histories. In the final year, students undertake independent Welsh research via an extended essay or longer project and select optional modules in themes such as translation, language and education, or contemporary literature. Politics and international relations study is expanded through three optional modules, allowing students to specialise according to their interests, providing a comprehensive foundation for careers in government, international organisations, or the private and voluntary sectors.
