COURSE CURRICULUM

The Welsh and Philosophy BA program combines the study of the Welsh language, literature, and culture with an in-depth exploration of philosophical ideas, providing students with strong academic, analytical, and employability skills. In year one, students take 60 credits in Welsh and 60 in philosophy, developing foundational skills in language, literature, critical thinking, and communication. Philosophy modules introduce classic and contemporary debates on morality, justice, mind, language, and belief, with the option to study in English or Welsh. Year two builds on these skills, with Welsh students completing a core module that includes work experience in a Welsh-speaking environment, alongside optional modules in language, literature, and culture relevant to professional fields. Philosophy in year two covers political philosophy, philosophy of mind, language, epistemology, and psychology, allowing students to develop interdisciplinary understanding and independent critical skills. In the final year, Welsh students undertake independent research through an extended essay or project and choose optional modules in areas such as translation, education, or contemporary literature. Philosophy students take the core module Philosophy in Practice, applying philosophical research to real-world problems, while optional modules explore contemporary issues and connections between different areas of philosophy. The program equips students with transferable skills, analytical thinking, and a deep understanding of both Welsh language and philosophical thought, preparing them for varied career paths or further research.
