COURSE CURRICULUM

The Welsh and Journalism BA program provides a balanced study of the Welsh language and literature alongside the academic and analytical study of journalism, equipping students with a wide range of transferable skills. In Welsh, students develop linguistic, analytical, creative, and employability skills, progressing from foundational modules in year one to advanced language work and research projects in the final year. Opportunities for vocational experience in Welsh-language workplaces, including broadcasting and print journalism, allow students to apply their skills in practical settings. In Journalism, the program focuses on understanding media institutions, cultural industries, and the role of media in society. Students study the history of media, textual analysis, media ethics, political communication, and the relationship between media, power, and society. In year two, core and optional modules provide knowledge of media research and advanced analytical approaches, while the final year emphasizes independent research through optional dissertations or projects that may integrate Welsh and journalism studies. Throughout the degree, students gain critical thinking, research, and professional skills, preparing them for careers in journalism, media, communications, or related fields, while also fostering cultural literacy and a strong understanding of the Welsh language, its literature, and contemporary relevance in society.
