COURSE CURRICULUM

In the final year of the Religion, Philosophy and Ethics BA, students focus on developing advanced knowledge and skills through core and optional modules that allow them to specialise according to their interests. Core modules include “The Good Life: Discussions in Contemporary Religious Ethics” and “Philosophy in Practice,” which provide opportunities to apply ethical and philosophical concepts to contemporary issues and real-world scenarios. Optional modules offer a broad and diverse range of topics, enabling students to explore religion, philosophy, and ethics in depth. These include historical and cultural studies such as “Ancient Israel: Portrait of a Near Eastern Society” and “Empire of Faith: Religion, Politics and Belief in the Roman Empire,” as well as focused religious studies like “Saviours and Salvation in the Religions of Asia” and “Theology on the Edge.” Philosophy options allow students to pursue research and applied projects, including dissertations in both philosophy and religion and theology, and modules such as “Belief & Irrationality,” “Moral Responsibility,” “Aesthetic Injustice,” “Phenomenological Investigations of Experience,” and “Radical 19th Century Thought.” Other modules, such as “Digital Technology and You” and “The Politics of Language Diversity,” highlight contemporary issues, ethical dilemmas, and societal challenges. This final-year structure ensures that students graduate with specialised knowledge, advanced research skills, and practical understanding of the intersections between religion, philosophy, and ethics, ready for diverse professional pathways.
