COURSE CURRICULUM

The Politics BA program is structured to provide students with a thorough grounding in political theory, comparative government, and international relations while progressively developing research, analytical, and practical skills. In the first year, students study three core modules on political thought, comparative government, and international relations, alongside additional modules designed to enhance academic skills, critical thinking, and independent learning. The second year focuses on the workings of government in the UK through a core module, while students can select from a wide range of optional modules across political topics and international relations, allowing them to tailor their studies to individual interests. In the final year, students undertake a substantial 40-credit project, which can take the form of a dissertation, a community-based project, or a simulation-based learning experience, enabling them to apply their knowledge and research skills to a practical or scholarly problem. Alongside this project, students select four optional modules to further specialise or diversify their degree profile, ensuring flexibility in developing areas of expertise aligned with career ambitions. Across all years, the program emphasises critical analysis, effective communication, and independent research, preparing graduates for careers in government, civil service, policy-making, journalism, advocacy, and other roles in the public, private, or voluntary sectors.
