COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA Philosophy degree offers a structured progression through key areas of philosophical study while developing critical thinking, communication, and analytical skills. In the first year, students are introduced to foundational topics including moral and political philosophy, mind, language, and belief, as well as the limitations of human reason. Modules explore philosophy through classic texts, films, and fiction, helping students develop essential academic skills such as writing and critical analysis. In the second year, students choose modules from areas such as moral, political, and feminist philosophy, alongside philosophy of mind, epistemology, and language, allowing them to explore philosophical questions in depth and integrate different areas of study. Optional modules provide the opportunity to engage with ancient philosophy, aesthetics, psychology, and contemporary debates, further enhancing independent study and reflective thinking. The final year immerses students in the research culture of philosophy, emphasizing the practical application of philosophical knowledge in real-world contexts through the core module Philosophy in Practice. Students also select optional modules that enable them to develop original ideas, critically engage with contemporary research, and address societal issues such as ethics, democracy, migration, and moral responsibility. Throughout the degree, students cultivate skills in reasoning, collaboration, and problem-solving, equipping them for a range of careers or further academic study.
