COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA Philosophy, Politics and International Relations program combines the study of philosophy, politics, and international relations, encouraging students to critically and creatively engage with complex ethical, social, and political questions. In the first year, students explore foundational topics in philosophy, including morality, justice, knowledge, belief, and the relationships between minds and bodies, alongside modules in international relations, comparative government, and political theory. Year one also develops essential academic and professional skills such as critical writing, research, and communication. In the second year, students deepen their understanding by studying political philosophy, philosophy of mind, language, psychology, and epistemology, while further exploring politics and international relations through modules on UK governance, international relations theories, and optional thematic topics. This stage emphasizes independent study, critical thinking, and practical application of skills. In the final year, students engage with research cultures across all three disciplines and apply philosophical knowledge through the core module Philosophy in Practice, which involves generating policy recommendations for contemporary real-world problems. Optional modules allow students to specialise in areas of personal interest and write a dissertation in philosophy, while additional modules in politics and international relations provide opportunities for advanced study of global issues, governance, justice, and conflict. Graduates leave with strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills, well-prepared for diverse careers in policy, governance, research, and public service.
