COURSE CURRICULUM

The Media and Communications BA program provides a structured and progressive approach to the study of media, culture, and communication across three years. In the first year, students follow a common curriculum designed to build a solid foundation in contemporary and historical contexts of journalism, media, and culture, alongside practical skills in academic writing, analysis, and research. Core modules introduce topics such as the history of mass communication, media audiences, advertising, and journalism studies, with additional optional modules exploring representations and regional media contexts. In the second year, teaching continues through lectures and seminars, with more ambitious tasks that develop research skills and methodological understanding, including survey methods, ethnography, and content and discourse analysis. Core modules cover digital culture and media research approaches, while optional modules allow exploration of areas such as celebrity culture, public relations, media law, fandom, and screen industries. In the final year, students focus on independent research and advanced theoretical and practical application. They may complete an optional dissertation, alongside a core module and a range of electives that allow specialization in areas such as film, popular culture, public relations, creative industries, sport, immersive media, digital culture, and visual communication. Graduates gain critical, analytical, and practical skills relevant to a wide range of media-related careers.
