COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA in English Literature, Journalism and Media is a joint honours program that allows students to explore both disciplines in depth, developing critical, analytical, and practical skills across literature and media studies. In the first year, students take 60 credits in English literature and 60 credits in journalism and media, covering core modules that build key skills in reading, writing, research, and employability, while also choosing two optional modules to broaden their knowledge. In the second year, there are no compulsory modules, allowing students to design their program by selecting from a wide range of options in both schools. English literature modules cover periods, genres, and thematic areas such as film, culture, race, and environment, while journalism and media modules explore media history, politics, communication, public relations, and digital culture. In the third year, students continue to take 60 credits in each discipline, including a 20-credit core English literature module focusing on the detailed study of a single text and its public presentation. Students have the flexibility to select the remaining credits from optional modules across both subjects, engaging with contemporary and historical issues, and may choose to complete a dissertation in either English literature or journalism and media. The program equips graduates with versatile skills in critical thinking, communication, and research, preparing them for a range of professional and academic paths.
