COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Strength and Conditioning programs at Cardiff School of Sport and Health Sciences are designed to develop highly skilled practitioners in line with industry standards and professional accreditation frameworks. The courses combine lectures from specialist academic staff with input from visiting lecturers who are among the UK’s most experienced strength and conditioning practitioners, offering students a blend of applied expertise and scientific knowledge. All students complete core compulsory modules, including Strength and Conditioning: Theory and Practice, Advanced Training Practice in Strength and Conditioning, and Research Methods for Sport. Depending on their chosen route—Theory, Applied, or Research—students engage with additional modules tailored to their focus. Theory route students explore professional practice, independent study, and preparation and practice in strength and conditioning, alongside a 60-credit final project. Applied route students combine professional practice with a 40-credit internship and a 60-credit final project, gaining substantial hands-on experience. Research route students undertake a 120-credit dissertation, emphasizing independent research and advanced analytical skills. Throughout the program, students develop critical appraisal, reflective practice, and practical competencies required to succeed in this fast-evolving field. The curriculum aligns with UKSCA and IUSCA accreditation requirements, preparing graduates to achieve professional recognition as Accredited Strength and Conditioning Coaches and enter careers in elite sport, performance enhancement, and applied strength and conditioning environments.
