COURSE CURRICULUM
The MSc Psychology in Education program offers a comprehensive exploration of psychological theory and its application within educational contexts. Students study a range of core modules, each worth 20 credits, beginning with Individual Development, which introduces key theories related to typical and atypical child development, including cognitive, social, and emotional growth, as well as language and literacy acquisition. Neuroeducation explores the intersection of neuroscience and education, addressing topics like neurodiversity, cognitive enhancement, and the critique of neuromyths. The Teaching and Learning module examines foundational psychological processes such as memory, motivation, emotion, and metacognition, and their implications for classroom practice and educational technologies.Human Behaviour in Education addresses social psychological issues in schools, focusing on identity, culture, classroom dynamics, teacher-student relationships, and the effects of social media and wellbeing. The Mental Health and Well-being module explores the biological, psychological, and social influences on children’s and adolescents’ mental health and their educational impact. Researching Psychology in Education develops students' quantitative and qualitative research skills, including data analysis, ethical study design, and academic reporting, in preparation for the final dissertation.Students may also choose a Professional Placement module, available only to those with Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC), which involves 60 hours of action research in an educational setting. This module enhances real-world experience and professional development. The program culminates in a 60-credit Empirical Research Project, an independent study designed and conducted by the student under supervision, reflecting rigorous academic and ethical standards. Each module may also be taken independently for targeted learning. The MSc is structured to build practical and analytical skills essential for understanding and improving psychological practice in educational environments.
