COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Health Psychology program includes a range of modules designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge required for professional practice and research in health psychology. The Research Methods and Design module consolidates undergraduate research abilities and prepares students to undertake master’s level research, critically evaluating qualitative and quantitative methodologies. Applied Psychology Practice introduces skills relevant to psychological work, including effective communication, interprofessional collaboration, ethical practice, and the application of evidence-based knowledge. Health Psychology and the Health Psychologist explores the development of the discipline and professional issues relevant to health psychologists, while Health and Society: A Biopsychosocial Approach examines the impact of biological, psychological, and social factors on health and illness perceptions across the lifespan. Understanding Long-term Health Conditions critically analyses theories related to stress and pain management and the effects of chronic illness on individuals and their families. Changing Health Behaviour focuses on social psychological theories of health behaviour change and the design and evaluation of interventions. Project and Career Planning supports students in developing a specialist project, reflecting on their knowledge and skills, and preparing for future roles as trainee health psychologists. The Project module allows students to undertake independent research, presenting and discussing findings to demonstrate systematic understanding, critical awareness, and professional competence within the field of health psychology.
