COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Forensic Psychology program focuses on the application of psychological principles to crime, policing, the courts, offender management, prisons, secure settings, and related civil and health contexts. It examines the environmental, psychosocial, and socio-cultural factors that may influence criminal behaviour and explores ways to prevent crime. The program aims to develop a deep understanding of the processes underlying criminal actions and to apply this knowledge to the effective management, rehabilitation, and treatment of diverse offender populations across the criminal justice system. Students benefit from close collaboration with His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Services (HMPPS) and secure forensic mental health facilities in Wales, ensuring the curriculum aligns with current policy, strategy, and practice. Regular input from practitioner forensic psychologists provides insight into regional services and their societal impact, while contributions from national and international experts enhance the program by sharing advanced specialist knowledge and contemporary research findings. Through this integration of theory, research, and professional practice, students develop the skills required to critically analyse criminal behaviour, apply evidence-based interventions, and contribute effectively to forensic and criminal justice settings. The program equips graduates for careers in criminal justice, mental health, offender rehabilitation, policy development, research, and other applied psychology roles, preparing them to make a meaningful impact in society.
