COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Dietetics program provides a structured and comprehensive learning experience across three terms, combining theoretical study, practical skill development, and professional placement. In Term One, students study Principles of Dietetics, examining the causes and dietetic management of obesity, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes, along with nutritional assessment and support. They also develop professional confidence and collaboration skills through Professional and Interprofessional Development, and explore psychological and sociological influences on health and wellbeing in Health Psychology and Wellbeing. Term Two focuses on advancing research skills through Applied Research Methods and Design, enabling students to design evidence-based projects, while Specialist Dietetics introduces complex clinical areas of practice. The first professional placement, Foundations of Dietetic Practice, allows students to apply learning in real-world healthcare environments and develop reflective, safe practice. Communication for Dietitians strengthens essential communication skills, including group education and consultation. In Term Three, students continue Specialist Dietetics and complete Placement 1, further building clinical confidence and holistic professional skills. Overall, the program integrates academic knowledge, research capability, professional development, and supervised practice, preparing students to become competent, reflective, and patient-centred dietitians able to meet diverse healthcare needs.
