COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Data Science offers a comprehensive and industry-aligned curriculum that prepares students for the growing demand for data science professionals. The program includes a set of compulsory modules covering essential areas such as big data, data analytics, programming, geospatial analysis, and information security. In the Big Data for Enterprise module, students learn practical techniques to manage and utilise large-scale datasets in real-world scenarios. Big Data Technologies focuses on current tools and frameworks for storing, processing, and analysing data in distributed environments. Geospatial Analysis introduces students to the management and interpretation of spatial data using advanced analytical techniques.Programming for Data Analysis helps students develop key coding and problem-solving skills, enabling them to design and implement solutions for data-related challenges. The Data Analytics and Visualisation module offers hands-on experience with diverse datasets, teaching data cleaning, analysis, and visual representation skills. Information Security covers theoretical and practical principles for managing and securing data within computer systems.The Research and Professional Practice module prepares students for their final Technology Dissertation, a 40-credit project where they apply their knowledge to a real-world challenge. This may involve an in-depth research project or the development of a data-driven system. The program awards a full MSc after 180 credits, while exit options include a Postgraduate Certificate at 60 credits and a Postgraduate Diploma at 120 credits.
