COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Criminal Justice and Security offers a comprehensive and interdisciplinary exploration of crime, justice, and security through the lenses of law, criminology, and international relations. Designed to provide students with both theoretical foundations and practical skills, the program equips graduates to address complex issues in today’s globalised and rapidly evolving justice landscape. Core modules include Crime, Criminals, and Criminal Justice, which introduces classical criminological theories and the structure of the criminal justice system in England and Wales, serving as a foundational framework for higher-level study. Investigating Global Crimes and Social Harms broadens the scope by examining international crimes such as genocide, war crimes, terrorism, drug and human trafficking, and environmental (green and blue) crimes. Conducting Criminological Research equips students with essential research skills to prepare for their independent dissertation. Other modules include Unravelling Miscarriage of Justice, which critically examines systemic failures and reforms, and Faith, Honour, and Justice, which investigates culturally specific abuses such as forced marriage, FGM, and honour-based violence. Justice Beyond Borders explores international peace, law, and the function of institutions like the International Criminal Court and UN Security Council. The 60-credit dissertation enables students to undertake original research on a topic of personal interest, supported by expert supervision. Students may exit the program early with a Postgraduate Diploma or Postgraduate Certificate, depending on completed credits.
