COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Advanced Cyber Security is structured around seven compulsory taught modules and a dissertation project, allowing students to develop specialist knowledge and practical expertise in the field. The program covers fundamental and advanced aspects of cyber security, starting with Information Security – Risks, Threats and Attacks, which explores data protection principles and management strategies. Human Centred Security examines the social and behavioural factors affecting security, while Forensics focuses on operating system analysis, artifact recovery, and cloud and application forensics. Secure Systems and Software develops skills in designing secure systems and software using traditional and emerging methodologies, and Network Security addresses vulnerabilities, protocols, network defence tools, wireless security, SDN, and IoT security challenges. Applied Cryptography provides in-depth coverage of symmetric and asymmetric encryption, cryptographic schemes, protocols, and security models. Research and Professional Practice equips students with the skills to design, plan, and execute a dissertation, supported by a written research proposal. The Cyber Security Dissertation allows students to independently apply their learning to a real-world project or research study, demonstrating critical evaluation and advanced technical competence. The program totals 180 credits, with PgC and PgD awards available as exit points, preparing graduates for careers in cyber security, digital forensics, and secure systems design, as well as further research or professional accreditation.
