COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA Sport, Ethics, and Society program explores a wide range of contemporary issues in sport and physical culture, encouraging students to examine the social, cultural, and ethical dimensions of sporting life. Core modules cover topics such as Sporting Lives, Research Methods in Sport, Sustainable Practice in Sport and Physical Culture, Sport, Character and Ethical Action, Sport and Integrity, Independent Study, and a Final Project. Students investigate diverse and often challenging subjects, including experiences of disability, human interaction with technology, jock culture, sexuality in sport, representations of female bodies in sports like boxing, as well as themes of risk-taking and cheating. The program provides a strong foundation in qualitative research methods, allowing students to critically analyse complex issues and develop a nuanced understanding of the sociological and ethical implications of sport. Independent study and the final project enable students to pursue individual interests, applying theory to practice while producing work that can take the form of a dissertation, journal article, or another approved format. Through this approach, students develop analytical, reflective, and ethical reasoning skills, preparing them for careers in research, policy, education, or professional roles within sport. Graduates leave equipped to address contemporary challenges in sport with social awareness, integrity, and ethical insight.
