COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA Interior Design at Cardiff Met is structured around a student-defined project, supported by a Personal Tutor and a team of subject-specialist staff from the Cardiff School of Art and Design. This Supervisory Team guides students throughout the program, fostering the development of proactive, reflective, and independent learning skills. In Semester 1, students undertake the Vision module and Context and Methodologies Part 1, which cultivate the ability to position ideas within a critical framework, advancing scholarship in contemporary interior design while considering broader societal and environmental concerns. Semester 2 continues this progression through the Idea and Contexts modules, enabling students to contextualise and implement their research proposals with a focus on climate-conscious and environmentally sustainable design. In Semester 3, the Output module consolidates learning by guiding students in the realisation of their major project, culminating in a curated exhibition and a written paper or article. This module provides the opportunity to showcase practical design work, including product and materials specification, reflecting both creative vision and sustainability principles. The program offers exit points for students completing 60 or 120 credits with Postgraduate Certificate or Diploma awards, respectively, while successful completion of 180 credits results in the full Master’s degree. Overall, the course develops designers capable of delivering innovative, sustainable, and socially responsible interior solutions.
