COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Sport and Physical Education (Dance) degree at Cardiff Met offers a practical and innovative approach to developing future educators and practitioners in sport, dance, and physical education. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in key theories, professional and academic skills, and practical application through school-based experiences, professional development activities, and reflective practice. Modules focus on child development, high-quality physical education, and movement exploration, supporting the transition to university life and fostering confidence as emerging educators. In the second year, the emphasis shifts to professional practice and innovation, with students encouraged to reimagine physical education and dance, applying theory to real-world contexts and work-based learning. Core modules are complemented by a wide range of optional modules that allow students to tailor their studies to their interests and career goals, including nutrition, strength and conditioning, sport performance analysis, and dance education. The final year consolidates knowledge and practical experience through advanced projects, a final independent project, and specialist modules, preparing students to lead and innovate in the sector. Graduates leave with a strong theoretical understanding, extensive practical experience in schools and community settings, specialist expertise, and the confidence to thrive in diverse professional roles or pursue postgraduate study, including teacher training pathways such as a PGCE.
