COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Psychology degree at Cardiff Met provides a comprehensive foundation in the scientific study of human behaviour, combining core psychological theory with practical research and applied skills. In the first year, students focus on developing essential knowledge and competencies, covering topics such as cognition, social and developmental psychology, biological psychology, cognitive neuroscience, and conceptual and historical issues in the discipline. Core modules also emphasise professional and interprofessional development and introduce research methods, equipping students with the ability to conduct and communicate psychological research effectively. In the second year, students build on this foundation with advanced research methods, applied cognitive and biological psychology, and critical social and developmental psychology, while also selecting optional modules in areas such as health psychology, forensic psychology, or educational psychology to tailor their learning to individual interests. The third year consolidates students’ knowledge and practical skills through a major project and specialised modules in clinical psychology, psychological therapeutic techniques, and optional applied topics such as forensic psychology, health behaviour change, education, or sport psychology. Throughout the degree, students gain hands-on experience, develop critical thinking and analytical skills, and engage with evidence-based practices. Graduates emerge with the expertise, practical experience, and professional awareness required for careers in psychology or further postgraduate study.
