COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Computer Security degree at Cardiff Metropolitan University, commonly referred to as Cyber Security, equips students with the skills and knowledge to protect networks, computers, and data from cyber threats and unauthorised access. The program addresses the increasing demand for cyber security expertise across all industries, covering essential principles such as offensive security, defensive security, and information security governance. Students learn through a combination of lectures, tutorials, technical laboratories, and real-world case studies, gaining insight into how attacks occur, identifying potential threats and vulnerabilities, and understanding the strategies used by cyber attackers. Practical experience is emphasised through a fully equipped Cisco cyber security lab, where students conduct penetration testing, vulnerability analysis, and develop secure systems for business environments using industry-standard tools. The course encourages active participation in student-led societies, including Capture the Flag and Women in Cyber Security, providing opportunities for competitions, networking, and professional development. Recognised for its quality and relevance, the program was the first bachelor’s degree in Wales to receive provisional certification from the National Cyber Security Centre. Cardiff Met is also an Academic Partner of the Chartered Institute of Information Security and a CREST approved academy, ensuring students graduate with a strong foundation to pursue careers in cyber security, ethical hacking, information assurance, and related fields while preparing for professional certifications.
