COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA Primary Education Studies degree at Cardiff Met offers a comprehensive program designed to prepare students for careers in primary education and related fields. In the first year, students explore the history of education, educational debates, and cross-curricular learning, while developing academic literacies and professional skills through work-based experiences. Modules such as Play, Creativity and Development in Young Children focus on cognitive, emotional, and creative growth, while Professional Studies and Work-based Development provide practical placement experience in diverse educational settings. In the second year, students deepen their understanding of pedagogical approaches, diversity, identity, and equality, and gain hands-on experience with outdoor learning and professional placements. Language, Literacy and Childhood Education, as well as Developing Research Skills, equip students with the ability to support children’s learning and engage with evidence-based practice. In the final year, students undertake an Independent Project tailored to their interests and develop expertise in curriculum design, global and comparative education, and sustainable and healthy educational practices. The Exploring Educational Environments module integrates philosophy, pedagogy, and practical considerations to design and adapt learning spaces. Throughout the degree, theory is closely linked to practice, ensuring graduates are creative, adaptable, and professionally prepared, with the knowledge, skills, and experiences necessary for employment, further study, or leadership within education.
