COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Media and Communications degree at Cardiff Met provides a comprehensive framework for developing knowledge and practical skills across media, journalism, public relations, and digital design. In the first year, students build a foundation through modules such as Meaning in Media, Media, Culture and Society, Media Writing for Journalism and PR, Creative Digital Design, and Mobile Filmmaking, combining theoretical understanding with creative and technical practice. The second year deepens expertise through core modules like The Media Business, TV Times, and Specialist Media Writing and Production for Journalism and PR, alongside a compulsory supported work placement in industry, which offers hands-on experience with partner organisations such as ITV Wales, Afanti Media, and Cardiff Rugby. Optional modules and the opportunity for a year in industry further allow students to tailor their learning to career goals, gaining additional professional experience and industry insights. In the final year, students undertake projects such as the Digital Enterprise Project, Independent Project, and Radical Cinema, which foster innovation, critical thinking, and practical application of skills. By the end of the program, graduates will have developed a strong portfolio of creative and professional work, practical experience from placements, and the knowledge and adaptability required to succeed in diverse roles across the evolving media, communications, and digital industries.
