COURSE CURRICULUM

The Law and Criminology degree at Cardiff Met is structured across three levels, providing students with a comprehensive understanding of legal frameworks, criminal behaviour, and the societal factors that influence crime. At Level 4, students build foundational knowledge through compulsory modules including Introduction to Criminal Justice, Constitutional Law, Criminal Law, Criminology and the Modern World, Crime, Inequality and Social Issues, and Introduction to Legal System, Method and Ethics. These modules establish a strong grounding in legal principles, criminal justice processes, and the social context of crime. At Level 5, students expand their expertise with compulsory modules such as Working in the Criminal Justice System, Law of Torts, Cyber Crime, Gender and Hate, Researching Crime: Methods, Approaches and Ethics, and Youth, Inequality and Crime, while optional modules like International Protection of Human Rights and Law of Evidence and Litigation allow for specialization. Level 6 consolidates students’ knowledge and research skills, with compulsory modules including Dissertation and Legal Research, Crime, Drugs and Society, Terrorism, Radicalisation and Violence, and Policing, Punishment and Justice. Optional modules such as Policy, Governance and Participation, Family Law, and Corporate Crime provide further opportunities for focused study. Across all levels, students develop critical thinking, analytical skills, and practical understanding of law and criminology, preparing them for careers in legal and criminal justice fields or further academic study.
