COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Graphic Design & Communication degree offers a progressive and immersive curriculum that evolves through three key years of study. In Year One, students explore the fundamentals of graphic communication, focusing on visual storytelling, narrative construction, and digital media. Modules such as Fundamentals of Graphic Design & Communication and Graphic Design Digital Contexts lay the groundwork in core visual and user interface skills. Research Basics equips students with academic inquiry techniques, while the Interdisciplinary Understanding module encourages collaboration across creative fields, tackling broad societal and cultural themes.In Year Two, the course emphasizes professional development through the Design Systems module, which explores branding, book design, and portfolio creation. Students engage in live briefs and collaborative projects that tackle real-world and contemporary issues in the 21st Century Challenges module. Real-World Contexts provides experience in designing value-driven outcomes for external stakeholders, while the Research Proposal module helps students define their personal direction and prepare for final year inquiry-based work.Year Three focuses on refining specialist practice and preparing for professional careers. In the Specialist Practice module, students work on live industry briefs and participate in international design competitions to develop a strong graduate portfolio. Positioning in Practice supports students in aligning their skills with industry expectations, and the final Contribution module combines practical and written research to showcase their design thinking and analytical capabilities.
