COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Game Art degree is structured to progressively build technical, creative and professional skills over three years. In Year One, students develop core abilities through Game Art Fundamentals, focusing on drawing, anatomy, character design, animation techniques such as stop motion and rotoscoping, and digital tools including Photoshop, Illustrator, Blender and After Effects. Narrative and Worldbuilding introduces 2D and 3D modelling and encourages students to apply visual and movement skills to storytelling and game asset creation. Research Basics develops academic research skills, while Interdisciplinary Understanding promotes collaboration and critical thinking through cross-disciplinary projects based on cultural and societal themes. In Year Two, the Production Pipeline module allows students to explore professional workflows and specialise in areas such as character art, environmental art or 3D generalist roles. Further professional development is supported through the 21st Century Challenges and Real-World Contexts modules, which involve live briefs and external stakeholder engagement. Students also prepare a Research Proposal to shape their final-year focus. In Year Three, the Final Major Project forms the centrepiece of the portfolio, allowing students to produce work aligned to their professional goals. Positioning in Practice supports career readiness, and the Contribution module enables students to demonstrate research and critical analysis through written and practical outcomes.
