COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA Fine Art degree is a comprehensive program designed to develop both creative and professional skills through a structured three-year journey. In the first year, students begin with modules focused on introducing concepts, processes, and independent studio practice. These modules encourage material experimentation and critical thinking while fostering individual artistic development. Drawing is central to this stage, helping students understand their creative relationships and communicate complex ideas. Additional modules on research basics and interdisciplinary understanding provide foundational academic skills and promote collaborative thinking across disciplines through projects addressing cultural and societal themes.In the second year, students engage in practice-based research, exploring significant artworks from galleries or collections that resonate with them. This study supports the development of a personal artistic direction and is supported by studio work, lectures, tutorials, and visits to cultural institutions. The 21st Century Challenges module deepens interdisciplinary learning through real-world projects, while the Real-World Contexts module encourages applying creative practice to external community and stakeholder needs. The year concludes with a research proposal that defines the inquiry for the final year and guides further personal and professional development.In the final year, students focus on consolidating their learning by producing a cohesive and professional body of work. They refine their technical and conceptual skills, engage in open critiques, and assess the impact of their art. The Positioning in Practice module helps prepare students for future careers by embedding professional readiness and reflective practice. The final Contribution module showcases research and analytical abilities through a substantial project that integrates theory with creative output. This degree supports students in becoming thoughtful, skilled, and confident artists equipped to succeed in the contemporary art world.
