COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Fashion Design degree is structured across three years, gradually developing creative, technical, academic and professional skills. In Year One, students build a strong foundation through modules such as Fashion Fundamentals, where they learn the full creative design process from concept to final product while developing CAD and communication skills. Fashion Visualisation encourages experimentation with silhouette, form and fabric through sketchbook exploration and creative briefs. Research Basics develops academic research and critical analysis skills, while Interdisciplinary Understanding introduces collaborative working and problem-solving across different subject areas. In Year Two, the focus shifts towards professional practice with the Fashion Industry module, offering experience through live briefs, industry perspectives, and exposure to both traditional and digital production methods. Students also tackle real social and cultural issues in the 21st Century Challenges module and apply design thinking to external communities through Real-World Contexts. A Research Proposal allows students to shape their final-year direction. In Year Three, students complete a Major Fashion Project that forms the core of their portfolio, developing advanced design, pattern cutting and garment construction skills. Positioning in Practice prepares them for professional careers, and the Contribution module enables them to demonstrate research and critical thinking through written and practical outcomes.
