COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Architecture degree is structured across three years to develop students’ design, technical, and professional skills. In the first year, students are introduced to core architectural concepts and design principles in the Introduction to Architectural Thinking and Design module, while the Integrated Design: Small Interventions module allows them to apply these skills in practical projects that combine design, representation, technology, and contextual studies. Research Basics develops academic research skills, and Interdisciplinary Understanding encourages collaborative work and critical thinking through projects addressing societal and cultural themes. In the second year, students advance their design abilities through the Integrated Design: Urban Interventions and Integrated Design: Dwelling & Community modules, tackling more complex projects with an emphasis on urban environments, housing, and local communities. The Real-World Contexts module applies these skills to external stakeholders and practical scenarios, while the Research Proposal strengthens research abilities and prepares students for independent enquiry in their final year. The third year focuses on individual creative and professional development, with the Integrated Design: Comprehensive Project consolidating knowledge and technical skills in a challenging design project. Positioning in Practice supports career readiness and professional reflection, and the Contribution module enables students to demonstrate research, analysis, and design proficiency in both written and practical forms, preparing them for graduate work or further study.
