COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Animation degree at Cardiff Met is structured across three years to develop both creative and professional skills. In the first year, students focus on creative enquiry, exploring contemporary animation practices, principles of motion, film language, and team collaboration in the Movement Transformation and Life module. The Storytelling module emphasizes narrative development and production of short character animations, while Research Basics introduces core academic research skills. Interdisciplinary Understanding encourages collaboration with other disciplines to address societal and cultural themes. In the second year, the Production module builds technical expertise, industry knowledge, and experimental practice, while 21st Century Challenges develops leadership, collaboration, and critical thinking through real-world projects. Real-World Contexts allows students to apply their skills to benefit external stakeholders, and the Research Proposal strengthens research abilities in preparation for final-year projects. The third year focuses on individual creative development and professional readiness. The Major Project consolidates skills through the production of a comprehensive animated work, while Positioning in Practice supports students in preparing for careers or further study by reflecting on experiences and professional growth. The Contribution module enables students to demonstrate research and analytical skills in both written and practical forms, integrating their knowledge to produce a polished, professional body of work that reflects their learning and ambitions in animation.
