COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Accounting degree at Cardiff Metropolitan University provides a comprehensive and structured pathway to developing expertise in accounting and finance. In the first year, students complete six compulsory modules, gaining a solid foundation in financial and digital accounting, management accounting, quantitative methods, understanding the economy, global financial services, and sustainable money management, with some modules available in Welsh. This initial year equips students with essential analytical and academic skills needed for progression. In the second year, all six modules are compulsory, focusing on audit and assurance, corporate and business law, financial management, financial reporting, performance management, and taxation, building advanced technical knowledge and practical competencies in accounting. After year two, students have the option to undertake a year-long industry placement, providing practical experience, professional networking, and enhanced career prospects. The third year deepens finance-related knowledge, preparing students for professional qualifications and managerial responsibilities within the finance function of organizations. Core modules include advanced financial management, advanced financial reporting, advanced performance management, audit and corporate governance, and advanced taxation. Students also select an optional module, either forensic accounting or industrial work experience if they have completed a placement. The degree combines academic study with professional practice, ensuring graduates are equipped with the skills, knowledge, and experience to excel in accounting and finance careers across public, private, and not-for-profit sectors.
