COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Accounting and Finance degree at Cardiff Met is structured to provide a comprehensive understanding of financial principles and prepare students for professional accountancy roles. In Year One, students are introduced to the foundations of accounting and finance through six compulsory modules covering financial and digital accounting, global financial services, management accounting, and economic principles. These modules help students build essential skills in data analysis, academic research, and sustainable money management. Year Two deepens this knowledge with compulsory modules in financial management, performance management, and responsible accounting practices. Students also undertake an experiential work or volunteering module to gain real-world insight and can choose an optional module in areas such as audit, law, or banking, tailoring their learning to personal interests. An optional year-long industry placement after the second year provides valuable practical experience, further enhancing employability. In the final year, students engage in advanced studies with compulsory modules in investment management, forensic accounting, and financial strategy. They also select from specialist topics such as corporate governance or financial regulation. The course is aligned with professional accounting bodies like ACCA, CIMA, and ICAEW, offering exam exemptions and a clear pathway toward Chartered Accountant status. This degree combines academic rigor with industry relevance, preparing graduates for successful careers in finance.
