COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Accounting and Economics degree at Cardiff Metropolitan University provides a structured and progressive curriculum over three years, combining core accounting and economics knowledge with practical and professional development. In the first year, students complete six compulsory modules, gaining foundational skills in financial and digital accounting, management accounting, microeconomics, macroeconomics, quantitative methods, and global financial services, alongside essential academic and digital competencies. In the second year, students advance their understanding through five core modules, including performance and financial management, intermediate micro and macroeconomics, and experiential work or volunteering opportunities. Additionally, students can choose an optional module in areas such as taxation, intermediate quantitative methods, or games and information theory, with the option to undertake a year in industry between the second and third years to gain practical experience and enhance employability. The final year focuses on advanced accounting and economics topics, with compulsory modules in advanced performance and financial management, behavioural economics, macroeconomics theory and application, and labour and health economics. Students also select one optional module from advanced taxation, econometrics, forensic accounting, or industrial work experience, depending on prior placements. Throughout the program, students build both theoretical knowledge and practical skills, preparing them for professional qualifications and careers in accounting, finance, and economics, while also benefiting from experiential learning and industry engagement to strengthen career prospects.
