COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA Photography program includes a range of core modules designed to develop advanced creative, critical, and professional skills. Situating Photographic Practices explores the historical, cultural, and theoretical contexts that shape contemporary photography, helping students understand the evolution of photographic art and its impact on society. Creative Collaborations encourages interdisciplinary teamwork, enabling students to work with peers from different creative fields to experiment, expand ideas, and develop innovative project outcomes. Critical Photographic Perspectives deepens analytical and reflective skills by examining debates, methodologies, and contemporary issues in photography. Industry, Practice and Innovation focuses on professional development, entrepreneurship, and emerging industry trends, preparing students for real-world career pathways in areas such as commercial practice, publishing, and exhibition production. The Major Project is a substantial independent body of creative or research-based work where students define their own direction, refine their personal visual style, and build a high-quality portfolio for professional presentation. Alongside this, the PG Challenge Module gives students the chance to engage in a collaborative project addressing contemporary challenges, enhancing problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills. Together, these modules provide a balanced blend of theory, practical experience, and industry engagement, equipping graduates with the confidence, creativity, and strategic awareness needed to succeed in the fast-evolving photography sector.
