COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Sport Coaching and Development degree at Canterbury Christ Church University provides a comprehensive program that combines theoretical knowledge with practical skills to prepare students for careers in sport coaching, performance, and physical activity development. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in human body science, sport and physical activity in society, practical coaching skills, and introductory sport coaching principles, alongside student success modules to support their academic development. The second year focuses on applying coaching skills to diverse populations, understanding the highs and lows of sport and physical activity, and preparing for industry engagement through enterprise modules and interdisciplinary learning. Students gain hands-on experience while developing leadership, communication, and professional skills essential for effective coaching. In the final year, students enhance their expertise in advanced coaching practice, developing as professional sport coaches while exploring technology in sport and performance analysis. Optional modules allow students to tailor their studies to areas such as community sport, health across the lifespan, outdoor learning, teaching physical education, and data-driven performance analysis. Across the three years, the course emphasizes applied learning, ethical practices, inclusivity, and evidence-based approaches, ensuring graduates are well-equipped to support athlete development, improve performance, and promote participation in sport and physical activity at all levels.
