COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Nursing (Child) degree at Canterbury Christ Church University provides a structured and comprehensive pathway to becoming a skilled and professional children’s nurse. In the first year, students focus on foundational aspects of nursing, including professional nursing practice, understanding health, and hands-on clinical skills through Nursing Practice 1, alongside supportive Student Success Modules. This combination equips students with the essential knowledge, practical abilities, and professional behaviours required for safe and effective nursing care. In the second year, the course deepens students’ expertise with Applied Children’s Nursing, Complex Children’s Nursing, and Nursing Practice 2, while exploring the role of social justice in nursing and midwifery. Students engage in increasingly complex clinical placements, enhancing their ability to deliver person-centred care and respond to diverse health needs in children and young people. The final year focuses on advanced practice, leadership, and quality improvement in care. Students manage the care of children and young people with complex needs through Nursing Practice 3 and specialized modules addressing complex care requirements. Throughout the course, theoretical learning is integrated with extensive practical experience, allowing students to develop confidence, critical thinking, and clinical competence. Graduates leave the program fully prepared for professional registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council and ready to make a positive impact in hospitals, community settings, and other healthcare environments.
