COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Adult Nursing degree at Canterbury Christ Church University offers a carefully structured curriculum designed to equip students with the knowledge, practical experience, and professional skills needed for a successful nursing career. In Year 1, students begin with Student Success Modules that support academic development and adjustment to university life. Core modules such as Professional Nursing Practice and Nursing for Health introduce the foundations of person-centred care and public health in nursing. The largest component, Nursing Practice 1, provides students with significant hands-on clinical experience, helping to develop confidence and competence early in their training.In Year 2, the curriculum deepens both academic understanding and clinical capability. The Social Justice as Nursing and Midwifery Practice module encourages students to critically reflect on equity and ethics in healthcare. Nursing Practice 2 builds on previous placements, allowing students to continue applying theoretical knowledge in real-world settings. Two further modules, Assessing Needs and Planning Care for Adults and Managing Adults with Acute Illness and Deterioration, focus on clinical assessment, care planning, and responses to complex health conditions. These modules ensure students are well-prepared to manage the demands of adult patient care in both community and hospital settings.Year 3 emphasizes advanced skills and preparation for professional practice. Nursing Practice 3 is the final and most intensive placement experience, enabling students to refine their competencies and demonstrate readiness for registration. Alongside this, Exploring Quality Improvement in Practice introduces students to evaluating and improving care delivery, a vital component of modern nursing. Nursing Adults with Complex Needs focuses on long-term, multi-faceted care approaches, including end-of-life care and chronic conditions. The program as a whole ensures students graduate with comprehensive clinical experience, sound academic grounding, and the ability to provide high-quality, compassionate care across a range of adult healthcare settings.
