COURSE CURRICULUM

The Human Biology degree is structured across three years, offering a comprehensive and multidisciplinary approach to understanding the human body in health, disease, and physical activity. In Year 1, students build a solid foundation in key biological sciences. Modules such as Biochemistry 1 and 2, Cell Biology and Genetics, and Microbiology and Human Health introduce essential biochemical and cellular processes. Students also gain a working knowledge of data analysis through Statistics and Introduction to R Software. The year concludes with a detailed look at Human Anatomy and an introduction to Human Physiology, offering a thorough grounding in body systems and their functions.In Year 2, the focus shifts to more advanced and applied biological studies. Students explore Human Anatomy and Physiology in greater depth through two modules, alongside specialized topics such as Neurobiology and Neuroscience, and Human Genetics. Optional modules provide the opportunity to tailor the degree to personal interests and career goals. These include Human Disease, Work Placement, Sport and Exercise Training, and Food Chemistry. This flexibility allows students to develop specific expertise or gain practical experience in a professional setting.Year 3 is designed to consolidate learning through research and specialization. The Honours Project in Human Biology, a core module, enables students to conduct independent research, applying theoretical and practical knowledge to a focused topic. Additional core modules, such as Immunology and Cancer Biology, and Human Reproduction and Development, cover complex biological systems and disease processes. A wide selection of optional modules—Nutrition and Disease, Systems Project in Pathobiology, and Physical Activity and Health—allows students to deepen their understanding in areas of interest. Overall, the program provides a balanced mix of theory, laboratory work, and applied study, equipping graduates with the knowledge and skills needed for careers in healthcare, research, biotechnology, or further academic study.
