COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Games Design degree at Canterbury Christ Church University is structured over three years to develop students’ creative, technical, and professional skills in game design and interactive media. In Year 1, students build a strong foundation through modules such as Understanding Games, Design, Art, and Technology for Games, Identifying Your Games Practice, Games Studio, and Success modules. These modules introduce students to the core principles of game design, artistic and technical tools, and the process of developing ideas into playable projects, while also fostering academic and professional skills. Year 2 focuses on applied practice, global perspectives, and industry awareness, with modules including Industry, Careers and Enterprise, Global Design Perspectives, Challenging Norms, and interdisciplinary modules. Students engage with real-world scenarios, collaborative projects, and critical reflection, preparing them for professional environments and the evolving demands of the games industry. In Year 3, students consolidate and specialise their skills through modules such as Advancing Games Practice, Experimental Studio, Disrupting Industries, Advancing to Industry, and the Final Specialist Project. Emphasis is placed on innovation, experimentation, and professional readiness, enabling students to create a distinctive portfolio that showcases their creativity and technical expertise. Graduates leave equipped for careers as game designers, developers, interactive media professionals, or roles within the wider digital entertainment sector.
