The BSc Forensic Investigation course at Canterbury Christ Church University is structured to develop a robust foundation in forensic science and investigative practice across three years. In Year 1, students begin with introductory modules such as Introduction to Forensic Investigation and gain critical scientific knowledge through Forensic Biology: Bodies of Evidence and Forensic Chemistry Uncovered. A significant part of the first year is focused on Introduction to Crime Scene Investigation, offering students practical experience in the techniques and protocols used in real-world scenarios. These core modules are complemented by Student Success Modules designed to build essential academic skills.Year 2 shifts towards career development and applied forensic knowledge. The Industry, Careers and Enterprise module provides insights into the professional world and builds employability skills. Students also engage in interdisciplinary studies, fostering broader analytical perspectives. Key forensic modules such as Blood, Drugs and Guns and Decision Making in Forensic Investigation delve deeper into crime scene analysis, ballistics, toxicology, and the interpretation of forensic evidence, promoting critical thinking and practical decision-making under realistic conditions.In Year 3, the focus is on advanced practice and independent research. Core modules include Research in Practice, Unravelling the Evidence, and Complex and Major Crime Investigation, which prepare students for leadership roles in complex investigations. The Final Specialist Project enables in-depth exploration of a chosen topic. Students can further tailor their learning through optional modules like Fire and Explosion Scene Investigation, Forensic Specialists in Death Investigations, and Knowledge in Practice, expanding expertise in niche areas. Throughout the course, students benefit from industry-standard facilities and simulation environments.
