COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Criminology and Psychology degree is structured over three years to provide students with an interdisciplinary understanding of criminal behaviour, psychology, and the criminal justice system. In Year 1, students build a foundation through modules such as Criminal Justice and Accountability, Becoming a Criminologist, Discovering Development and Identity, and Careers in Psychology, supported by Student Success modules that enhance academic and professional skills. These modules introduce students to key concepts in criminology and psychology, development, identity, and the foundations of the criminal justice system. Year 2 develops applied knowledge and professional awareness through modules including Violence, Vulnerability and Victims, Psychology and World Topics, Psychology in Life and Work, Interdisciplinary modules, and Industry, Careers and Enterprise, allowing students to explore complex social and psychological issues, engage with real-world contexts, and develop employability skills. In Year 3, students focus on advanced topics and independent research with modules such as Policing, Punishment and Rehabilitation, Applied Criminology Major Project, Directions and Applications in Psychology, and Mental Health and Trauma: Applied and Research Skills. Throughout the program, students gain critical thinking, research, analytical, and communication skills, while practical and applied learning ensures they are prepared for careers in policing, forensic psychology, victim support, criminal justice, research, policy, and related fields, or for further postgraduate study in criminology, psychology, or criminal justice.
