COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Countering Terrorism and Extremism degree is structured over three years to provide a blend of theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and professional insight into terrorism, extremism, and criminal justice. In Year 1, students build a foundation through modules such as The Criminal Justice System, How to Change the World, Investigative Interviewing, and Succeeding in Your Criminal Justice Specialism, supported by Student Success modules that enhance academic and professional skills. Year 2 expands understanding with modules including Criminal Investigation: Process and Decision Making, Transnational Security: Global Responses, Interdisciplinary modules, and Industry, Careers and Enterprise, allowing students to apply criminological and investigative principles to real-world challenges and develop employability skills. In Year 3, students focus on specialised topics such as Terrorism and Extremism in the UK, Dissertation in Policing, and Miscarriages of Justice, while optional modules including Research in Practice, Sustainability, Security and Territory, Mental Health and Trauma, Demystifying True Crime, Knowledge in Practice, Forensic Specialists in Death Investigations, Power, Injustice and Human Rights, Culture, Identity and the Digital Self, and Work, Life and Wellbeing provide opportunities to tailor learning to specific interests and career goals. Throughout the program, students gain critical thinking, research, analytical, and problem-solving skills, preparing them for careers in policing, intelligence, security, policy, research, private security, and specialist counter-terrorism roles.
