COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Computer Science degree is structured over three years to provide a comprehensive foundation in computing, practical technical skills, and professional readiness for technology-driven careers. In Year 1, students develop core knowledge through modules such as Software Development, Introduction to Computing, Computer Systems, and Emerging Technologies, supported by Student Success modules that enhance academic and professional skills. These modules introduce programming, systems architecture, computing fundamentals, and the latest technological innovations, building the groundwork for advanced study. Year 2 expands on these foundations with modules including Computational Intelligence and Algorithms, Networking and Systems Architecture, Interdisciplinary modules, and Industry, Careers and Enterprise, offering practical insights into professional environments and opportunities to apply computing skills to real-world challenges. In Year 3, students focus on advanced topics such as Cryptography for Cybersecurity, Research Informed Practice, and Big Data Analytics, while the Computing Major Project allows them to undertake independent research or development work, integrating theoretical knowledge with practical problem-solving. Throughout the program, students gain hands-on experience, develop analytical thinking, and cultivate teamwork and project management skills. Graduates are prepared for careers in software development, cybersecurity, data analytics, cloud infrastructure, and technology consulting, or for further study in advanced computing, artificial intelligence, or related fields.
