COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence degree is structured over three years to provide students with a comprehensive foundation in computing, artificial intelligence, and data-driven technologies. In Year 1, students develop core knowledge and technical skills through modules such as Software Development, Introduction to Computing, Computer Systems, and Emerging Technologies, supported by Student Success modules that build academic and professional skills. These modules introduce programming, systems architecture, and emerging technologies, laying the groundwork for advanced study in AI and computing. Year 2 expands on this foundation with modules including Computational Intelligence and Algorithms, Web Programming and Databases, Interdisciplinary modules, and Industry, Careers and Enterprise, providing opportunities to apply computational and analytical skills in practical, real-world contexts while developing professional awareness and employability. In Year 3, students focus on advanced topics such as Knowledge Engineering and Advanced AI, Big Data Analytics, and Research Informed Practice, while the Computing Major Project allows them to undertake independent research or development work, integrating theoretical knowledge with practical problem-solving. Throughout the program, students gain hands-on experience, develop critical thinking, and cultivate teamwork and project management skills. Graduates are prepared for careers in artificial intelligence, machine learning, data analytics, software development, cybersecurity, cloud computing, and technology consultancy, or to pursue further study in specialised computing and AI fields.
