COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Animal Science degree is structured over three years to build a strong scientific foundation and advanced specialist knowledge related to animal health, behaviour and welfare. In Year 1, students develop key scientific skills through modules such as Introduction to Natural and Applied Sciences, Evolution and Diversity, Scientific Discovery and Statistics, and Biochemistry, alongside Student Success modules that support academic and professional development. Year 2 builds on this foundation with Molecular and Computational Biology, Animal Comparative Anatomy and Physiology, Genetics, and an Interdisciplinary module that integrates scientific perspectives. The Industry, Careers and Enterprise module provides real-world insight and employability support, while optional modules such as Cancer Biology and Pathology or Animal Behaviour allow students to tailor their interests. In Year 3, students focus on advanced animal science topics including Nutrition and Metabolism, Animal Diseases and Immunology, and Animal Husbandry and Conservation, investigating how science contributes to animal welfare and sustainable management. The Research Project in Natural Sciences allows students to pursue an independent research study, applying research methods and scientific analysis to an area of personal interest. Overall, the course blends theory, practical skills and professional opportunities, preparing graduates for careers in animal care, research, welfare, conservation and related scientific fields.
