COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) History program at Canterbury Christ Church University offers a structured and comprehensive study of history, combining theoretical knowledge with practical and interdisciplinary skills. In the first year, students focus on foundational modules such as Becoming a Historian, Canterbury is Your Classroom, Going Medieval, and The History of Now, which provide essential skills in research, critical analysis, and understanding historical contexts, while student success modules support academic development. The second year expands students’ perspectives through modules like Atlantic Crossings and Hidden Histories, encouraging exploration of global connections, diverse narratives, and the often overlooked aspects of history. Interdisciplinary modules and Industry, Careers and Enterprise prepare students for professional application of historical knowledge and transferable skills. In the final year, students refine their expertise with advanced modules including Questioning the Past, Recovered Voices, Being a Historian, and Engaging with Nature: Understanding Environmental History, which develop specialized knowledge, analytical thinking, and research capabilities. The History Final Project enables students to undertake independent, in-depth research, consolidating their skills and knowledge. Throughout the course, students cultivate critical thinking, historiographical awareness, and the ability to communicate complex ideas effectively.
